Chiefmate's duties and responsibilities:
A) Shall assist the Master and Designated Person and is the overall in-charge of the Deck Department;
B) Help
the Master supervise and command the Deck Department by implementing the rules,
regulations and maintain discipline onboard;
C) Maintains
close contact with the different departments onboard and ensures that duties
are carried out smoothly;
D) Help
the Master in matters relating to the safety of the ship;
E) Perform
necessary duties when the ship is in port such as the performance of cargo
watch;
F) Directly
responsible for stowage of cargo and cargo handling plans and signing of cargo
receipt;
G) Prepares
and maintains documents related to cargo;
H) Monitors
the condition of the hull at all times and maintains the trim and allowable
sharing force and bending moment of the ship;
I) Plans
important tasks such as cargo handling work, to ensure safety;
J) To
ensure that life-saving appliances, fire fighting equipment and waterproofing
equipment are maintain properly;
K) Checks
the status of the hull, machinery and equipment under the management of the
Deck department and Maintenance Plans;
L) Helps
prevent marine pollution;
M) Reports
the status of storage and maintenance of mooring equipment to the Master;
N) Custodian
of important documents not falling under the responsibility of the Master;
O) Checks
the status of hull, anchor chain, mooring equipment, cargo gear, navigation
instruments and accommodation spaces and perform duties related to dry-docking;
P) Submit
periodical reports from the Deck Department;
Q) Educates,
guides and evaluates his subordinated and submits evaluation report to the
Master;
R) Manages
work schedules performed outside regular working hours;
S) Assign
tasks for deck hands and crew members;
T) Plan
replenishment of fresh water suppy and inculcate the economical consumption of
fresh water;
U) Inculcate
the economic use of consumable of ship’s store under his responsibility;
V) To
continuously monitor the status of the ship and carry out shipboard
inspections;
W) Safety
and health management onboard ship;
X) Help
the Chief Engineer in matters related to shipboard repairs;
Y) Report
to important matters that fall under the responsibility of the Master;
Z) Make
arrangements relating to procedures for access to shore and communication
procedures when the ship is in port;
AA)
Assume responsibility in ensuring regulation and
safety of persons other than crew and passengers on ship, visitors and cargo
handling personnel;
BB)
Investigate and plan measures for prevention of
thefts, piracy and stowaways;
CC)
Educate and guide subordinates;

DD)
Perform other duties assigned by the Master.
