SECOND ENGINEER’S DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ON THE SHIP

Hello friends! Today I would like to introduce to you the Second Engineer duties and responsibilities on the ship:

 Second Engineer duties and responsibilities:

   
       A)   Acts as an understudy of the First Engineer

B)   Performs sea and port watchkeeping;

C)   Maintains the Diesel and Steering Engine, Air Compressor, Emergency Generator, Life Boat Engine and electrical system of the vessel;

D)   Monitors consumption of Fuel Oil, Diesel Oil, Lube Oil and other chemical stores and spares;

E)   Reports to the First Engineer all deficiencies found in the generating set, electrical machinery and equipment and together they shall adopt emergency measures to respond to the same;

F)    Performs anchor watch;

G)   Familiarize the usage and operation of all machinery under the responsibility of the Engine Department;

H)   Oversees and manages the purchase of lube oil;

I)     Manages fuel consumption;

J)    Heads the bunkering operations and makes the Bunkering Plan and submits the same to the Chief Engineer;

K)   Perform such takes as may be assigned to him by the First Engineer;
