Hello friends! Today I would like to introduce to you the First Engineer duties and responsibilities on the ship:

 First Engineer duties and responsibilities:

     A)   Assists the Chief Engineer and ensures that the machinery and equipment under the responsibility of the Engine Department are properly maintained;


B)   Operates and maintains the main engine and associated auxiliaries;

C)   Perform navigational and anchor watchkeeping;


D)   Carries out work and rationalization plans required for understanding present conditions of the machinery and equipment under the responsibility of the Engine Department;


E)   Personally operate the main engine while being tested and direct the maintenance of important parts;


F)    Reports to the Chief Engineer deficiencies found in the machinery and equipment;

G)   Help the Chief Engineer monitor the consumption of ship stores under the responsibility of the Engine Department;


H)   Keep Machinery Record Book;


I)     Submits repair work request to the Chief Engineer;


J)    Guides subordinates and responsible for the shipboard education of crew under him;


K)   Distributes work to Oilers and Wipers;


L)    Responsible for the documentation of work perform outside regular working hours;

M)  Helps the Chief Engineer in matters related to safety and health of personnel under the Engine Department;


N)   Help the Chief Engineer in shipboard repairs;


O)   Perform such other duties that may be assigned to him by the Chief Engineer;
